Message to U.S. Citizens in Canada: CDC Dog Import Requirements
Starting August 1, 2024, all dogs entering the United States must meet new Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements, and owners/importers must certify fulfillment of those
requirements before transiting the border.
All dogs must be at least six months of age, be microchipped, appear healthy upon arrival, have an
export document signed by a licensed veterinarian, and have a completed CDC Dog Import Form.
These rules apply to all dogs, including service animals, and apply to land, air, or sea entry to the
United States. Owners and importers will need to complete these requirements each time they cross
into the United States.
Dogs that have been in countries other than Canada may have additional requirements.
